Description

Product Overview

The 24-Fiber OM3 MPO/MTP® Trunk Cable is a high-density cabling solution designed to streamline cable management in modern data centers. Capable of handling substantial data traffic, this multimode assembly consolidates 24 fiber strands into a single, robust jacket. It is the ideal choice for connecting switches, servers, and storage arrays where space is limited and airflow is critical.

Engineered by MeFiber for performance and reliability, this trunk cable utilizes laser-optimized OM3 fiber to support 10 Gigabit, 40 Gigabit, and 100 Gigabit Ethernet applications. The factory-terminated MPO/MTP® connectors ensure consistent low insertion loss, eliminating the variability associated with field termination. Whether you are upgrading an existing network or building a new fiber backbone, this trunk provides the scalability and speed required for enterprise environments.

Key Features

  • 24-Core Configuration: High fiber count in a compact footprint facilitates rapid deployment of high-speed links.
  • OM3 Multimode Fiber: optimized for 850nm VCSEL sources, supporting high-speed data transmission over short to medium distances.
  • Type B Polarity: Standard crossover polarity ensuring proper Tx to Rx signal mapping.
  • LSZH Jacket: Low Smoke Zero Halogen material ensures safety by minimizing toxic emissions in case of fire.
  • Push-Pull Tabs: Integrated connector mechanism for easy insertion and removal in dense patch panels.
  • Factory Tested: 100% optically tested for insertion loss and return loss.

Applications

This 24-fiber trunk is versatile and supports various network architectures:

  • 10/40/100G Ethernet: Supports 10GBASE-SR, 40GBASE-SR4, and 100GBASE-SR10 standards.
  • Data Center Aggregation: Connecting Zone Distribution Areas (ZDA) to Equipment Distribution Areas (EDA).
  • Parallel Optics: Ideal for parallel optic transmission requiring multiple fibers for a single link.
  • Storage Area Networks (SAN): High-bandwidth interconnections for Fibre Channel protocols.

Why Choose MeFiber?

Data center downtime is costly. That is why MeFiber focuses on quality at the physical layer. Our MPO/MTP® assemblies undergo rigorous interferometric testing to check for end-face defects or scratches that could impede signal transmission. By using high-grade components and precision manufacturing techniques, we deliver cabling infrastructure that you can trust to carry your mission-critical data today and into the future.

FAQ

1. What is the difference between MPO and MTP®?

MPO (Multi-Fiber Push On) is the generic interface standard defined by the IEC. MTP® is a high-performance MPO connector brand engineered by US Conec. The MTP® connector features specific mechanical improvements, such as elliptical guide pins and a floating ferrule design, which reduce wear and improve optical alignment. While both are compatible, MTP® is generally considered the superior choice for critical networks.

2. What is Type B Polarity?

Type B polarity is the standard “crossover” method for MPO/MTP® cables. It connects Pin 1 on one end to Pin 24 (in a 24-fiber cable) on the other end. This “flip” ensures that the transmit signal (Tx) on one side matches the receive signal (Rx) on the other side, which is essential for the link to function correctly.

3. Why use 24 fibers instead of 12?

A 24-fiber MPO/MTP® connector offers double the density of a standard 12-fiber connector in the same physical space. This is particularly useful for 100G applications (like 100GBASE-SR10) that utilize 20 fibers, or for high-density trunking where reducing the number of cables in the tray is a priority.

4. Is this cable Plenum or LSZH?

This specific product features an LSZH (Low Smoke Zero Halogen) jacket. LSZH is designed to be safer for humans in the event of a fire, as it emits very little smoke and no toxic halogen gases. It is commonly required in Europe and in enclosed spaces with poor ventilation.
